Richard
J. Kasson started his legal career with
the law firm of Brin & Brin, P.C. in
1997. His practice was focused in the area
of civil litigation with an emphasis on
medical and legal malpractice (defense).
Mr. Kasson was named Co-Managing Attorney
for Brin & Brin, P.C. in January 2007
and held that position until January 1,
2009 which is when he co-founded Gonzalez,
Chiscano, Angulo & Kasson, P.C. where
he serves as Vice President and Treasurer
of the firm.
Over
his eleven years of practice, Mr. Kasson
has gained extensive litigation and trial
experience in the South Central and South
Texas region. He has represented hundreds
of healthcare providers in the defense of
medical malpractice lawsuits and many

other
individuals, corporations, law firms and other business
entities facing personal injury, breach of contract,
deceptive trade, fraud, securities law violation,
and employment law cases.
Professional
Background:
Before attending law school, Mr. Kasson was employed
at Abbott Laboratories in Chicago, Illinois as a
research pharmacologist from January 1992 until
August of 1994. The first year of Mr. Kasson's legal
practice with Brin & Brin, P.C. was in Corpus
Christi, Texas. In September of 1998, he transferred
to the firm’s San Antonio branch. Mr. Kasson
has been admitted to the Western and Southern U.S.
Federal District Courts of Texas and is licensed
to practice in all state courts in the State of
Texas.
Education:
Mr. Kasson graduated from Ripon College (Ripon,
Wisconsin) in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
While at Ripon College he majored in Biology. He
graduated from St. Mary’s University School
of Law (San Antonio, Texas) in 1997. He served on
the St. Mary’s Law Journal’s Editorial
Board as a Comment Editor from 1996-1997 and was
the recipient of the Federal Bar Association’s
Outstanding Student Award in 1997.
Awards/Recognitions:
In 2004 and 2006, Mr. Kasson was named by Texas
Monthly magazine as a “Rising Star”
in the area of insurance defense litigation and
he was named one of San Antonio’s Best Lawyers
by Scene in SA magazine in 2005. Mr. Kasson also
published an article titled “Informed Consent”
in the Bexar County Medical Society’s monthly
journal in 2008.
Family:
Mr. Kasson is married to Michelle Matthews-Kasson,
who is a fellow practicing attorney. They have two
children, Pierce and Hadley.
